Atlas Owner Works with Terrace View Team

From L to R: Senait Mahansho, Beverly Johnson, Deneisha Williams, Amy Loew, Bob Speelman

NOTE: The following words are from Bob Speelman, owner of Terrace View Gardens. Each week he works as a nursing assistant at one of his 37 Atlas Healthcare Solutions nursing homes, in order to learn more about his company's motto: "Supporting Superior Care."

Sept 21, 2017
I had the privilege of spending the day yesterday at Terrace View Gardens, our 82 bed facility located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Sandy Campbell is the Administrator there and is a tremendous leader. She has a team with a lot of longevity and the minute you walk through the front doors you feel welcomed.

I went to Terrace View to have the opportunity to work with Senait Mahansho an STNA on their 3rd floor memory care unit. As I arrived to the unit, I quickly realized that Senait was part of a package deal, and I would be working hand-in-hand with Senait, two other nursing assistants, and Amy Loew, the Charge Nurse on the memory care unit. The four of them love their residents and each other. I couldn’t help but be inspired and encouraged. These four are the real deal. Their communication between each other was amazing. Whether is was assisting each other with transferring a resident, informing the Charge Nurse of a concern about a resident, or simply letting the team know if they needed to step off the unit for a minute to get something. They worked as one.

Amy, the Charge Nurse, has been at Terrace View for 12 years. Amy was an STNA for 7 years before she became a nurse, and it showed. She had a respect for her nursing assistants and would jump in to provide help without ever having to be asked. She told me “this is my team and I’m only as good as they are.” The respect went both ways and the nursing assistants raved about her leadership.

Senait has worked at Terrace View for 11 years, and this was her first job after obtaining her STNA. Senait has two children, an 11 year old daughter named Nyla, and a 9 year old son named Makai. Her children are her world. When I asked her what she did for fun she replied, “between working and taking care of two kids, sleep is what I do for fun.” Senait has a wonderful sense of humor and outlook on life!

Senait was born in Eritrea, Africa and came to the United States with her parents and brother as war refugees when Senait was 5 years old. Her father, who has since passed, encouraged her to take STNA class since she loved taking care of people. I’m so glad Senait took her father’s advice, we are a better company because of her!

The highlight of the day for me was sitting down with the residents and assisting them with lunch. The conversations with the residents and with Senait, Beverly, and Deneisha were wonderful. It was like one big family meal. We talked and laughed and connected with one another. One particular resident would smile, repeat something I said, and then laugh. These moments with the residents are, by far, the most fulfilling thing I do “for work.” There’s just something about all of us being together at a quiet little nursing home, feeding, laughing, and talking together, that makes you happy. Terrace View, and their awesome nursing team, provide that happiness for their residents. It’s truly a beautiful thing.

Thank you Senait, Beverly, Deneisha and Amy! You are a wonderful team! The care you provide comes from the heart and is making a difference every day.
